Too good to not share

Also, what the what?!?!
May 18, 2008A soldier used the Quran — Islam’s holy book — for target practice, forcing the chief U.S. commander in Baghdad to issue a formal apology on Saturday.
Could this be why the US is losing the respect of people from around the world? Things that make you go “Hmmmm”!

Primary fatigue.
April 23, 2008This primary season is really dragging on, and I’m starting to lose some of my zeal and excitement about it.
I’d like for the Democrats to get it together and pick a candidate, for the good of the party. The longer this drags out, the more divisive it’ll become. And, in a lot of cases, both candidates risk losing support to apathy, people who are just tired of keeping track of this. It’d be great if we could get a candidate before the convention in August, get the party on track, stop the infighting and focus on beating McCain. Wishful thinking, I know.

How Lacey has decided to solve their panhandling problem…
March 17, 2008“The council revised its panhandling ordinance to bar people from begging for money on driveways that both access public streets and are open to the general public, such as shopping malls or other retail stores.
Panhandlers could lawfully stand at these driveways if they can obtain written permission from the property owner.” Just make it illegal! That always works. Just look at past successes, like the War on Drugs. Good work, Lacey City Council. Give yourselves a big pat on the back.

Seeing something big
February 9, 2008I’ve never really seen anything I considered to be really big, something I would tell my kids and grand kids about when I get old. Nothing I would really think back and say, “Now, that was something big“. So I think today is going to stand out in my memory for that very reason.
We found out later that as many as 3,000 to 4,000 were left outside, because Key Arena was filled to its 18,000 person capacity. Let that sink in. Over 21,000 people left work or school early to see someone who MIGHT become the next President speak for around 50 minutes. 3,000 of those people were turned away at the door, but they stayed outside in the cold and the rain to listen over loudspeakers.
On his way in to the Arena, Obama stopped and addressed the crowd outside, thanking us for coming and waiting, megaphone in hand.
Tomorrow I’m going to the local middle school to caucus for Barack Obama. I want to be able to tell my kids, “When you guys were just little kids, and Will and Violet were still in diapers, we took you to see President Obama when he came to Seattle.”

I am a big political nerd, but I somehow always manage to miss the start of the Presidential debates. I hate only catching the tail end of them. I either have to find a recording online later or read a transcript. I really prefer to see it for myself instead of reading someone else’s take on it after the fact.
Maybe I need to order cable for the election cycle and get myself a TiVo!

State of the Union rant
January 29, 2008I don’t know why I’m even watching it this year.
“Don’t worry America, nothing is wrong! Everything is awesome!”
Apparently, everything is coming up roses and I totally missed it.
Bush is really starting to sound like this guy. Ugh.
