I have a hard time putting into words the admiration I have for Kate, and the gratitude, so bare with me as I struggle to get this out.
This weekend we attended a wedding of some friend’s that Kate worked with on her first campaign. The whole weekend put into perspective just how far she’s come in the last couple years, and us with her. Just a year ago we were still living out in the woods, isolated from everything, unhappy and living in a 2 bedroom duplex with 5 people. She is responsible for bringing us out of a situation no one was happy with, and it’s because she has worked so hard for the last eight years, in college and breaking into the workforce. I’ll remember the sacrifices you made by putting the needs of the family before your own, and I’ll honor you for those.
Now we’re in a great neighborhood in a town we love, with a house we all fit in and works great for our family. Sitting at the table during the wedding reception we were seated next to a state Senator. I’m not trying to brag or put on airs, but that was the moment the distance Kate has brought us struck me. Through her hard work and dedication to whatever the task at hand is, she’s made a reputation for herself that has allowed her to further her career in ways people never would have guessed.
I remember when I first met Kate while she was in college. People would ask what she was studying and would laugh and ask “What is she going to do with that?!” when I told them it was political science. That’s the thing with Kate. She beats the odds and does the things people would say is impossible. It’s why I admire her as much as I do.
This didn’t turn out quite as eloquent or pretty as I would have liked, but I think (hope) that it conveys the deep admiration, respect and gratitude I have for Kate and all that she’s done for our family.
Kate, you’re my best friend and love of my life. You’re the best role model our children could possibly have, and I am so grateful our daughters will have you in their life to look up to. Thank you.
